Application of quality Mannitol powder in food
Application of quality Mannitol powder in food form and the effect of the dietary supplementation on the nutritional, medical, and gastric disorders.Materials and MethodsAnimalsExperiments were performed on normal healthy male and female Sprague–Dawley rats (Charles River Laboratories, Harlan, IL, USA). Animals were divided into 3 groups: groups 1 and 2, which received 3 mg Mannitol daily in either the diet/water/water mixture with no other supplements; group 3, which received one of the diets containing two of the supplements; and group 4, which received none of the dietary or supplements.Animals were maintained on a 4-wk C57BL/6J diet maintained ad libitum, in accordance with the guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals reported by the American College of Nutrition [1-26], except that the daily dosage of Mannitol was reduced from 3 mg/kg in group 3 to 2 mg/kg
The most important use of quality Mannitol powder in food is as sweetener or antisticking agent of sugar free gum or sugar substitute syrup (see below). Mannitol can also be used as a preservative in foods. Mannitol is non-toxic and may interfere with certain hormonal or neuropeptide secretion methods, such as the hormone secretagogue peptides.Mannitol is a potent sweetener, but it is only an additive. All sweeteners such as sucrose have an inherent energy content of about 0.5 g per kg of dry weight. Therefore, the weight of sweetener in Mannitol has been calculated to be about 4.3-5 g per kg of dried body weight (Figure 15). This is a very small amount of sweetener in comparison to other components of chewing gum and other food preparations including some vitamins. In fact, in some countries the sweetener in Mannitol is sometimes replaced by honey or molasses or some other sweetener as a preservative.
Quality Mannitol powder can make chocolate flavored icing for ice cream and candy. I find it easiest to use with powdered gelatin. I have used this as a thickener in my chocolate, and it works great with chambord (chocolate, sugar and oil) and chocolate cake mix.Also, it is very sweet and not necessarily a good choice for pudding recipes. I have used it in pudding recipes and have had very little of it taste sour. I also use it well in cake recipes and use it a lot in cookies.I use it in my own recipe called Vanilla Almond Creme. It is not a dessert, but like a pudding it is quite sweet. In pudding you use two egg whites, one for the egg and the other for the milk. Quality Mannitol powder can also be used as filler, quality improver and anti caking agent. It can also be used to thin out a watermelon or to soften butter and so on.Other useful uses:It can be made into a powder or an infusion, if you like.The dried powder can be mixed with water and dried with the aid of an electric blanket for the purpose of making lemon or orange juice.A powder can also be made for the purpose of making jelly. This would probably be a good way to make liqueurs or other non-alcoholic drinks.If the plant is not ripe you may have to use a very strong vinegar or similar chemical to keep it alive.You can also make lemon tarts or lemons in your own kitchen.
